Hey Addicts! I missed the first book in this series, but I'm glad I get to boost the second! THE LEMORIAN CREST is the 2nd book in the Cobbogoth series by Hannah L. Clark. The covers are amazing and the blurbs sound great for lovers of YA fantasy! Read on my fellow Addicts!

Release
Date: July 2015
Summary
from Goodreads:
After being raised from infancy in
Boston, Mass., Noria (a.k.a Norah Lukens) has no idea what to expect upon
entering New Cobbogoth, where she never would have guessed that paths of light
can make you vanish; doors can lead to realms both near and far; myths and
legends are actual history; a mere kiss can seal two souls as one; and, of
course, a stone is never “just a stone.” Her Uncle Jack’s stories never could
have prepared her for the magical and dangerous place her native realm is
turning out to be.
When the Gihara’s promises begin to crumble, her best friend and soul-mate
Jamus (a.k.a. James Riley) is in more danger than ever. Then when his father
Lylend abandons her to search for an ancient relic called The Lemorian Crest
and she is taken captive by the very people she’s risked everything to save,
Noria begins to lose faith in the Cobbogothian gods and the mission they sent
her home to accomplish.
Only when a series of new friendships and loyalties are forged in the most
peculiar of places, does Noria dare hope again. Hope for Jamus’ safety, for
their future together, and for the survival of the entire Cobbogothian race.
Book 1: Uncovering Cobbogoth was published in 2014 by Cedar Fort Publishing.
About the Author
Hannah L. Clark
lives with her husband and two children in the Rocky Mountains. She has always
known she would be a storyteller. In 2006 she graduated from Utah Valley
University with a bachelor's degree in English and immediately began writing
her first novel.
Uncovering Cobbogoth was Clark's first book in the seven book Cobbogoth series based on her mythological brain-child, The Legend of the Cobbogothians. It was released in May 2014 through Cedar Fort Publishing. Book 2 in the series, The Lemorian Crest will be released in Summer 2015.
Clark loves running, mythology, singing while playing the guitar, herbal tea, escaping into imaginary worlds, and being with her peeps. Like her heroine Norah, she also kind of believes that trees might have souls, but must clarify that she has never actually hugged a tree. The closest she has ever come to that kind of bizarre behavior was the time she hugged the pillars outside Harry Potter Land. Which, all things considered, is not bizarre at all if you take into account how exquisitely happy she was to finally be there. ;-)

Revenge is sweet, just like candy.
Candy Seaborne knows she’s badass. She takes after
her father, an assassin and possibly a spy, although he won’t admit to either.
She idolizes him. Her dream is to follow in his footsteps. But first, she has
to finish high school.
Biding her time, waiting for real life to begin,
Candy craves drama and isn’t above manufacturing some. If you’re a classmate
who wronged her or a boyfriend who cheated, watch your back. She’s no pushover,
and revenge may be her favorite pastime.
Jonah Bryson is the senior class heartthrob who
breaks all the stereotypes. He’s a jock, but he isn’t the typical player. He’s
moody and antisocial. No girl has gotten anywhere with him since his last
girlfriend broke his heart.
Candy sees Jonah as a challenge and the perfect
distraction. But she may be in over her head because unlike everyone else,
Jonah isn’t buying her tough act. He sees the lost, lonely girl inside. He
sees too much. When he looks at her that way, she wants to let her
guard down and be vulnerable. But that’s the last thing she should do because
her father’s world is spilling over into hers, and life is about to get real
much sooner than Candy expected.
MY REVIEW:
I couldn't decide if this was a 4 or 4.5 star for me, but one thing for sure: THIS IS A GREAT READ! I love that even though this is a contemporary book, it's filled with vivid characters, wonderful world building, a heart tugging duo of characters with serious health issues and plenty of mystery and action to go with it all.
Candy is our heroine. Her mother died when she was young and her father--who Candy insists works for the CIA--looses custody of his daughter to her vindictive aunt. The book kicks off with Candy turning 18 and her deciding to return to her father in glorious fashion! She's leaving behind her mean girl cousins and cheating boyfriend with hilarious pranks and payback. When she arrives home, you can almost feel what Candy and her father feel for each other. I loved it.
Her father is definitely like no other YA dad I've read about. He gives her plenty of space for Candy to get into loads of trouble, yet he's not an absentee parent. And it's obvious he loves her very much, even if e does play the frustrating parent card excuse: I'm not answering your questions for your own safety.
Outside of this unconventional Daddy/Daughter relationship I love the relationships between Candy and all the characters.
And Candy herself is almost too smart for her own good. I love how at the beginning of the book she's very calculating and plans everything from her smiles to the how she fits into her old school. She's a refreshingly strong yet vulnerable main character. And what's more her growth as the story goes in is wonderfully illustrated. I also liked how Debra showed us Candy dealing with stress in her life, acting out, with her realizing what she's doing, but not strong enough to stop herself from doing it. I felt for everything she went through and I totally approve of her falling so hard for Jonah!

Of course Jonah is playing with a loaded deck, a fact obvious from the first time we see him. But I can't say anymore than that with giving away the best part of the story so.........I will say about 2/3 of the way through I figured out his big secret. Even figuring it out, I still enjoyed the big reveal scene. And Jonah is a hero that you will love from the first moment. At first I did draw small similarities to Edward from TWILIGHT but only in the whole mysterious cool guy person he portrays. Rest assured her is SUCH a stronger lead man than Edward!
As much as the romance is a feature in LIKE CANDY it's not so in your face that it over shadows everything else. The mystery, Candy's determination to prove to her father she can handle the truth of his work, and trying to support her best friend who is suffering from the same cancer that killed her mother. The only thing I can say bad about Candy is how she started making some kinda stupid decisions at the end of the book, but then again she was far more emotional as opposed to rational thinking at that point so it can be attributed to her acting more with her heart than her mind, which is a nice character growth so I'm torn on that part.

There are so many layers to this story and the cast of characters.
So with all these great things, why not a 5 star? Two reasons:
1- I don't like cliffhangers that literally cut us off in the middle of a very big scene. It's like when season 1 of BBC's Sherlock cut off their season with Moriarty at the point of Sherlock's gun and Moriarty's snipers having their sights on Sherlock and John. WTF. I will admit Debra has me dying for the next book to see what happens.

2-I felt like a lot of the stuff in the first half of the book could have been cut back or have more of the mystery element added to it. While the first 1/3 of the book was fun and set up the characters well, I was in danger of getting bored because I didn't see enough of the mystery or spy father's life as was promised from the book's blurb. But once the plot picked up, that's when LIKE CANDY sunk it's claws into me and had me reading until 2 am to see what happens.
Overall I highly recommend this book to fans of mystery and YA romance and just a plain intriguing and fun read.
Thanks to Xpresso book tours and Debra for gifting me a copy of LIEK CANDY in exchange for my honest review. Now I NEED book 2 ASAP! Just please don't leave it on a mean cliffy like book 1.
